70mm Standard Bi-Fold Door FAQs
I've heard uPVC bi-folding doors can be flimsy and weak - is this true?
The very first uPVC bi-fold doors on the UK market were manufactured from existing components and early users did indeed experience several problems after installation, including bowing or broken hinges. Liniar was the first to design a bi-fold system from scratch, using bespoke parts and fully testing it for strength and stability, ironing out the problems experienced with other bi-fold doors and producing a bi-fold door that is built to withstand the daily rigours of modern life.
Should I choose a bi-fold door or a sliding patio door to open into my garden?
The answer to this depends on whether you are able to open up a full wall of your room, or if you are restricted by furniture or fixtures - in which case you may prefer a fixed pane, such as a sliding door. If you have no restrictions, either internally or externally, a bi-folding door can definitely add the 'wow' factor to your home, especially in the summer when fully opened.
What's the difference between the Liniar standard and ModLok bi-folding door systems?
The standard bi-fold is built in a more traditional way, with steel reinforcement inside the uPVC and locking mechanism added at the fabrication stage, and is perfect for apertures requiring bi-folding doors between 2 and 4 panes wide. The ModLok™ bi-fold completely reinvented the uPVC bi-folding door, winning a Queen's Award for innovation thanks to its unique, patented exoskeleton. ModLok™ is a highly innovative combined reinforcing and locking mechanism, bringing greater strength and rigidity to each uPVC pane thanks to a continuous aluminium exoskeletal perimeter, enabling homeowners to have even wider door configurations of up to 7 panes wide.
Do uPVC bi-folding doors require a lot of maintenance?
You can rest assured that you won't need to spend hours looking after your Liniar bi-fold doors to maintain their beauty. Unlike timber doors, you won't need to treat or paint them each year to keep them in top condition - and Liniar’s 10 year frame guarantee gives you the peace of mind that the colours won't fade. Keep them looking their best with an occasional quick wash with soapy water, and as with any moving parts, oil them regularly to keep them operating smoothly.
