SwitchBoard uPVC Decking FAQs
What's the difference between SwitchBoard and SwitchBoard Ultra decking?
Think of the different decking types as 'better' and 'best'! Both are ideal for any type of decking installation, both are made from the highest quality ingredients using the latest tooling and machinery and both are quality checked by the Liniar team through the same stringent processes. The main differences are in size (SwitchBoard Ultra is flatter and wider than SwitchBoard), appearance (SwitchBoard Ultra has a deeper, 3D embossed finish with a matt surface), composition (SwitchBoard has a hollow, chambered core and SwitchBoard Ultra features a solid, 100% synthetic core containing recycled material surrounded by a premium protective uPVC cap on all sides) and fixing methods (SwitchBoard Ultra can be face-fixed just like a timber deck if required). You can see all the differences at a glance by downloading our comparison sheet.
Does uPVC decking look shiny and fake?
With SwitchBoard decking from Liniar, the embossed finish helps remove the gloss from the uPVC, giving each side a relatively matt appearance compared to other decking brands. The traditional grooved side of SwitchBoard decking also features a woodgrain textured, embossed finish. Different colours can have different levels of sheen, so ensure you see a physical sample before making your choice - your installer or supplier should be able to assist with this.
Why is SwitchBoard decking double-sided?
When we commenced development of our new colour-fast uPVC decking system, feedback from customers was divided between those who preferred an embossed woodgrain-effect finish, and those who wanted a more traditional appearance to rival timber decking - so we created both options in one deckboard! The surfaces can be mixed within the same installation, for a totally unique look to your decking project with an identical colour match.
Is uPVC decking slippery?
Contrary to belief, timber decking can actually be more slippery than uPVC decking. This is because algae can grow when decking is damp, particularly in the winter, which is avoided with man-made materials such as uPVC. Liniar's SwitchBoard decking has been tested to British Standard BS 7976 for Slip Resistance, making it family friendly and safe.
Is uPVC decking safe to use with barbecues?
We recommend that barbecues or fire pits should not be used in conjunction with uPVC decking – although SwitchBoard is tested to Class 1Y Fire Rating, it is best to avoid direct heat for cosmetic purposes.
Is SwitchBoard decking stain resistant?
SwitchBoard decking is far more stain-resistant than both timber decking and wood polymer composite (WPC) decking. Red wine and coffee can’t soak into its PVCu finish, as long as spills are wiped away promptly, keeping your deck looking brand new for longer.
Should I install uPVC composite decking on a timber sub-frame?
You could install SwitchBoard deckboards onto a timber sub-frame - or for a truly maintenance-free deck, why not choose either a galvanised steel or aluminium sub-frame? Whichever sub-frame you select, the innovative Quick Clip fixing solution for SwitchBoard decking provides a seamless, safe finish and even automatically spaces the deckboards evenly.
Add matching end caps and trims to complete your SwitchBoard deck - full installation instructions are available.
