Zero|90 – An industry game-changer from Liniar
The UK’s leading systems company Liniar, a subsidiary of Quanex, has announced the launch of a brand new, game-changing window and door system – Zero|90.
It is widely anticipated that Part L Building Regulations will require windows installed in new homes from 2025 to achieve U-Values of 0.8 W/m²K in order to meet the targets laid out in the Future Homes Standard. Most existing 70mm PVCu window systems will not be able to achieve this target. With this in mind, Liniar has continued to invest £millions in new product development during a time when the industry has struggled to keep up with demand for existing products. Despite external pressures, Liniar’s focus on innovation has resulted in the forward-thinking extrusion specialist designing a window and door system that will help fabricators and installers meet the proposed regulations with ease. And Zero|90 isn’t just for new builds! Mindful of the challenges faced by installers, Liniar’s 90mm system can also be retro-fitted into existing cavities without disturbing the internal finishings, thanks to an innovative rebate. The Zero|90R window system is ideal for every home including social housing – making it a first of its kind in the UK.
The Zero|90 system
Evolved from Liniar’s ground-breaking 70mm EnergyPlus system, Zero|90 is the pinnacle of energy efficient windows and doors, boasting U-Values as low as 0.5 W/m²K (0.7 with triple glazing). The full suite of windows and doors comprises casement, tilt & turn, mock sash, French and bay window options, alongside a residential and French door, both with a choice of thresholds including Part M compliant.
The Zero|90 system meets the triple objective of:
• Ultra-high energy efficiency
• Unparalleled sound reduction
• High sustainability credentials
all in one system!
Having designed and engineered Zero|90 to a high environmental standard, Liniar has invested heavily in tooling and machinery to extrude its sashes with a recycled core, making the system even more sustainable.
Meeting the increasing demand for Passivhaus-capable fenestration products, Zero|90 will help specifiers tackle the challenges of cutting carbon emissions, reducing energy consumption, and advancing sustainable construction methods using renewable and recyclable materials.
Design and Development Director Chris Armes explains,
He continues, “Not only will Zero|90 lower energy consumption and the costs associated with running heating and cooling systems, it also provides superb sound reduction, ensuring occupants enjoy all the well-being benefits that come with living in a comfortable, quiet home. With more and more developments being built in urban areas, cutting noise is high on the list for many specifiers and Zero|90 can reduce sound by up to 42 decibels. This means that in real terms, Zero|90 windows actually halve noise transmission, compared to a standard double-glazed window.”
Zero|90R for 70mm cavities
Uniquely, the Zero|90R casement window features a clever rebated frame that can be easily retrofitted into typical UK window reveals without the need to remove existing plaster work or internal finishings such as tiles – whilst delivering all the benefits of the standard Zero|90 window.
Not only does this reduce installation time and cost, it also makes Zero|90R ideal for Local Authorities responsible for ensuring their existing social housing stock meets the requirements of the Government’s Future Homes Standard initiative.
The future of ultra-high energy efficient windows and doors
Whether specified for a new build or a renovation project, both Zero|90 and Zero|90R offer environmental, economic, and well-being benefits:
• Energy savings of up to £15,000* for a typical home over a normal lifespan of 35 years
• Reduced household carbon footprint, equivalent to planting over 700 trees**
• Superb noise reduction to 42 decibels – double that of a standard window – delivering a peaceful environment and improved sleep health.
Every product in the Zero|90 range contains recycled material and is 100% recyclable at the end of its useful lifespan.
Martin Thurley, Liniar’s Group Managing Director comments,
“Our aim is to provide Liniar customers with the means to stay ahead of current legislation, and the Zero|90 system will help them do just that. Even if the proposed Part L amendments are reduced, Liniar fabricators and installers will have the assurance that they can offer something better ahead of their competitors – and that’s what we always strive to achieve.”
